As Steve automatically marches forward through each path on every level, you use W to make him jump, and A to make him stop. Do these things in order to avoid falling into pits or other traps and dangers, getting stuck, but also avoid TNT or arrows dropping or thrown at you, since any of these things happening mean that you lose the game.
