You will hold the mouse and drag it where you want the characters to run, and as you proceed, make sure to collect keys, since you need them to go through gates, with the number on top of them representing how many keys are needed.
Avoid gates in the color red, since they deplete you of your diamonds, of which you should collect as many as you can along the courses so that you get a big score in return.
That is not all, because at the end of the stages you need to tap repeatedly and use the power of those diamonds to open up the chest, which gives you even more extra rewards.
